Day 7

August 14th.

I missed blogging over the weekend!

Our Pennsylvania reception was a hit on all levels. There was nothing that could have improved it. It is magnificent to have my mom in town and she's really relaxing. When she's back in Nebraska she has to take care of so many people all of the time she rarely gets time to herself to do whatever she wants to do. This weekend she has only had to take care of herself and most of the time I was fussing over her or Gail and Steve were fussing over themselves with her. I think she's really had a great time.

She came in on Friday and we spent dinner at Owl house. The evening was beautiful and warm. We all had fantastic food and Matt and I drank some beer. When we got home we opened up another bottle of wine and I got a little too drunk. Once again I told her how I felt when she talked about me being a teacher, that she really needs to get a plan for when she dies, and as funny as it sounds and as big of a deal it was, I can't remember the third subject! Regardless we woke up a little hungover and went for a wonderful walk. It was a beautiful warm morning, but not the kind of warm where you dread the rest of the day. It was a happy calm dry warm with a little breeze. I think that's a common morning here in New York state. It's lovely. While on the walk we stopped and grabbed breakfast. We ended up taking a lot longer of a walk than expected to the point when we got home to get ready for the day we had to rush. Bridget then picked us up and we were on our way!

We got to Bradford at noon sharp and picked up some sandwiches on our way to Gail and Steve's. When we were ready we went to the club and everything was perfect! They had an entire room full of costumes to put on, they had an entire room full of food, they had a whole patio full of chairs with umbrellas that was spectacular, and the pool was completely ours. There was so much room we didn't look like the 50 people we were! Our friend Melissa brought her kids and they dressed up over and over and over. One of them took it upon himself to play with Charlie the whole day. Yes Charlie and Magic (Matt's parent's dog) even got to come.

By mid afternoon everyone had a costume on and we took a big group photo. I think everyone is going to remember that for a long time. The food was once again out of this world! They really knocked it out of the park! There were vegetarian options that Matt loved. There were meat options that my mom loved! I ate way too much and drank sangria all day. By the end of it everyone was happy and full. Once again, the weather held up the entire day.

My friends and I all went to Ellicotville afterwards and went to the brewery there. They had a wonderful garden with the biggest hydrangeas I have ever seen. Turns out that hydrangeas that big are quite a common occurrence to have them larger than your head! Yesterday we walked from our Airbnb to Matt's parent's house, to breakfast, to back to Matt's parent's house, to the street festival, and back to Matt's parent's house. It's so lovely to have them in Ellicotville. We're going to be visiting a lot.

Steve, Matt's dad, gave us the grand tour of Ellicotville. We drove EVERYWHERE. I had no idea there were two ski resorts and that the houses get that big and expensive in such a little town.

We left right around dinner time and came back home. We ate shrimp tacos with some of the leftover shrimp from the reception. They turned out pretty great if I do say so myself. We then went through the cards we received from people and printed out the list of thank you cards matt needs to write out. I also uploaded the photos from the reception last night and everyone has been liking them like crazy of facebook.

This morning my mom is sleeping in deservingly and Matt is on his way to Albany for the day. I took the day off to hang with my mom. I think we'll probably go to the gym or for a walk then possibly to the mall or to high/low falls. I think I'll take her to the genesee brewhouse regardless and if she's still hungry before she leaves we can grab a sandwich at orange glory. I think she's had a wonderful time and I'm so grateful she came.

I'm sitting in my cleaned living room with a candle burning and my black as night coffee. The air outside is beautiful and happy again. The sun is shining even though it was supposed to be gloomy today. I hope it stays out.
